RU - FELIX - Radboud University

Radboud University Nijmegen was established in 1923. It has seven faculties and enrols over 19.000 students, about 2500 academic and 2000 non-academic staff members as well as about 2500 graduates. The annual total expenditures are about 450 M€.
The FEL-based IR User Facility FELIX which provides access to  its fourinfrared and THz beamlines is operated by the Radboud University Nijmegen.
The FELIX Facility operates a number of free-electron lasers that provide intense, short-pulse laser radiation in the infrared and THz range. It comprises in total four infrared beam lines: FLARE, FELIX-FEL1 and FELIX-FEL2 providing together the wavelength range from 3 to 1500 µm and FELICE operating between 3 and 100 µm.
  • FELIX-FEL1 and FEL2 provide continuously tunable radiation in the spectral range of 3300-66 cm-1 (3-150mm, 2-100 THz) with peak powers ranging up to 100 MW in (sub)picosecond pulses.
  • FLARE generates powerful pulsed light between 200 GHz (λ=1.5 mm) and 3 THz (λ =100 µm). FLARE will generate light in two distinct operating modes, a short-pulse high intensity mode and, in the future, a spectroscopic mode producing narrow bandwidth radiation (Δλ/λ < 10-5).
  • The FELICE beamline is devoted to gas-phase intra-cavity experiments and provides continuously tunable radiation in the spectral range of 2000-100 cm-1 (5-100 mm). The intensity available to the experiment is a factor of up to a hundred higher as compared to the FELIX beam lines.
The FLARE and FELIX beam lines are coupled to sophisticated user laboratory setups such as a high-resolution FTICR system, several molecular beam machines, ion traps and pump-probe setups. The FELICE beam line can be used with two intra-cavity setups – a versatile molecular beam apparatus and an FTICR mass spectrometer. Moreover FLARE and FELIX beam lines connect to the magnets of the High Magnetic Field Laboratory next door.
